In the holy land of Tulunadu, Mahatobhara Shri Somanatheshwara temple located at Puthige village in Moodbidri taluk, on the banks of river Naagu raises majestically against a beautiful landscape of hills, paddy fields and various other natural beauty. Well known shrine is situated about 4 km from Jain Kashi moodbidri town. History goes back to 800 years, the temple was endowed by the royal Chowta dynasty of moodbidri the rulers of this region, which was famously known as chowta seeme. Ever since the temple is renowned for promoting spiritual, cultural and social uplift of the public at large.
The temple has three round premises. Shri Somanatheshwara, the supreme deity in the temple is encompassed with the divine Mahishamardini Ammanavaru, Shri Mahaganapathi, Shri Laxminarasimha and Shri Chandranatheshwara along with the divine spirits Pancha Dhumavati and Karia mala in the inner circle. Raktheshwari, the divine spirit is situated at exterior premises.
The temple observes glorious annual festival which lasts for 15 days with a variety of colourful religious performances like Keredeepostava, Bhoomandala Rathotsava, Aalu pallaki utsav etc. Besides nitya Trikala pooja, few other worshiping modes like Rangapooja, Rudrabhisheka etc are also performed accordingly.

It is our pleasure to inform you regarding the proposed integral renovation of Mahathobhara Shri Somanatheshwara Temple which is sacred for thousands of devotees, who relies upon and always heard by the Lord.
By the mercy of the Lord, the temple administration and the devotees held “Swarnaaroodha Prashne” at the temple, the vedic experts and astrologist’s advised constructing new garbhagruham for Mahishamardini ammanavaru with same status and significance as Shri Somanatheshwara.
Also, It is but natural pertaining to the exposure in the atmosphere for centuries together, the present structure is in a dilapidated condition. Therefore the renovation is the need of the day. Temples which were endowed by our great ancestors are our spiritual heritage. Being ardent devotees it is our prime duty to conserve the heritage and hand over it to the future generations.
Hence, by the grace of Shri Somanatheshwara, it has been resolved to conduct integral renovation at an estimated cost of rupees fifteen crores.
In fact. we are aware that the success of the proposed noble project is possible only by the collective wholehearted participation of generous devotees. Meanwhile, we have profound confidence in you. Ardent devotees those who desire to take major share may kindly choose to sponsor the expenditure of any prominent parts of the project, the estimated cost of which is furnished herewith for reference.
